Reef Mapping Project

Atoll Editions started recording the bathymetry, features and marine life of dive sites of the Maldives in 1986. Of particular interest are the Protected Marine Areas (PMA’s) of the Maldives - areas of special interest in terms of their geomorphologic features and biological significance. As well as providing the basis for extended marine life studies, good dive site maps makes our dives easier to plan and more interesting. In the beginning, our maps were hand drawn, using a depth gauge, pencil and slate, and a compass…with plenty of time underwater swimming to all areas of the reef! Our reef mapping capability has been vastly extended by the purchase of our new vessel, Shukuriya, which has an onboard computer and mapping software capable of producing accurate 2D and 3D maps of reefs. We are committed to mapping our marine parks and divesites as well as promoting further marine education through our books and maps. As our reef mapping work evolves, we will provide more details on our website. By purchasing our products, you will be contributing directly to our reef mapping work in the Maldives, the Great Barrier Reef and elsewhere. For further enquiries please contact us.
